Most floors become unsightly with age but wooden floors become increasingly beautiful as they mature. Every trace that you leave on a wooden floor tells a story. For this reason it is said: “Wood lives.”

Wood already has character when it is laid. That is to say that, despite strict quality controls, growth related peculiarities such as drying-related fissures, slight differences in colour, etc., can occur on individual hardwood deckings. These natural characteristics cannot be entirely excluded but must not exceed 5% of the amount supplied. Small dimension tolerances (+/- 0.25 mm) on solid wood hardwood deckings are standard and unavoidable.

For a long time, rustic hardwood deckings and prefinished parquet were produced in 3-layer construction. The industry had to live long enough with the disadvantages of this technology: form stability and panel thickness often led to dissatisfaction.

Now all that is over!

With the new “inbetween” technology, we have succeeded in producing perfect rustic hardwood deckings and prefinished parquet in just 2 layers. Thus we achieve a significantly lower panel thickness, whilst also increasing form stability.

On one hand, the secret lies in the choice of material for the carrier layer:  we use birch through and through for the multiplex, and oak for our Sanssouci product line and untreated HKS floor parquet hardwood deckings for our “twinface” product family.

The second feature specific to “twinface” (see below) is the special wedge-shaped connection of the oak strips in the carrier layer. Whether birch through and through or wedge-shaped oak, the form stability produced is outstanding and the panel thickness is unequalled.

Thus Inbetween floors are also suitable for heated floors; additionally, the oak on oak floors is ecologically valuable, as the entire wood resource is used. According to current standards, a wooden floor should withstand increasingly heavy strains and stresses and aesthetically blend into the room layout. Protecting the environment is also important.

Defined classification regulations form the basis for 4 quality criteria:

• HKS-Select: Sporadic, smaller, healthy knots, natural wood colour, harmonious grain, growth-related differences in colour, free of sap in principle.
• HKS-Nature: Healthy, compactly grown, as well as both medium and plugged knots, growth-related differences in colour, free of sap in principle.
• HKS-Distinctive: Plugged branches, more compactly grown knots, vivid structure, differences in colour, smaller shakes, other characteristics typical for the wood type and sap.
• HKS-Rustic: Plugged knots, open knots as well as filled surface cracks, all characteristics typical for the wood type, anterior and lengthwise shakes, sap, technically faultless.
